About this session
More than 80 Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) are under development worldwide, though few have reached commercial operation. SMRs promise smaller projects, factory-built units and greater site flexibility, allowing placement at retiring coal plants, remote grids or industrial loads. Execution is where the difficulty sits. Projects must overcome high costs, financing hurdles, regulatory approvals and thin supply chains for critical components. standardisation and repeat builds are what eventually bring costs down. The discussion will focus on technical design hurdles, project cost and financing, regulatory readiness, supply-chain depth, and the standardisation required for repeat builds.
