About this session
Growing energy trade and an ageing fleet are increasing demand for tankers, LNG carriers and specialist vessels. Global shipbuilding is currently concentrated in just a few countries, creating an opening for new manufacturing and repair centres to build capacity. Established domestic shipyards, with existing order books and skills, are well placed to move up into larger and more complex energy vessels as that demand grows. New entrants need yard capacity, specialized skills, technology and long-term financing to arrive together. Support must also hold across investment cycles that run for decades. The opportunity is large, and the task is to scale capability and capital in step. The discussion will focus on how the maritime supply chain expands to carry growing energy trade, and where new capacity can credibly be built.
